About CulphoMusic ...

Culpho Church Airial

The seed that has grown into CulphoMusic was first sown in 2016 after a weekend visit to St Botolph Church by Stevie Wishart (musician), and Else Van Riel (film-maker). Over the course of that weekend Stevie and Else aided by Tony Faulkner, one of the world’s leading recording engineers, made a recording and film inside the Church.

Between 2017 and 2019 Shingle Street Folk Band delighted audiences with their traditional and humorous folk songs and were joined on one occasion by members of the Suffolk Poetry Society to create a ‘Burns Night’ to remember.

One thing we hadn’t bargained on was COVID and the Lockdowns, but once free to enjoy being together again CulphoMusic events continue. To date we have held 13 concerts and have been able to support the Church and various Charities at the end of each year.

CulphoMusic offers music events from a wide range of genre – Early music, Traditional Folk, Jazz, Classical vocal and instrumental and contemporary music.  Our collaboration with actors, poets and painters provides the opportunity to create unique events to touch the heart and raise the spirit.

Culpho Church

St Botolph Church, in the Hamlet of Culpho, is a Grade II listed Building dating from around the early 13th century. It was restored in 1884.

Much loved by its parishoners St Botolph, in addition to its regular Church services, has been host to many and varied Arts events over the years.  We want to keep this lovely Church active and appreciated and CulphoMusic is one way of assuring its future.
